- Getting there
- Kathmandu → Lukla (flight, 30-40 min) in off-season; in peak season (approx. Oct 1-Nov 15 and Apr 1-May 15) flights operate from Ramechhap/Manthali: Kathmandu → Ramechhap (drive 4-5h, 132-145 km) → Lukla (flight, 15-20 min). Road alternative: Kathmandu → Salleri/Thamdanda by jeep (12-14h over 1-2 days) then walk 3-5h to Lukla.
- Altitude sickness
- Mild-to-moderate AMS possible at Namche (3,440m) and Tengboche (3,860m), especially after flying directly to 2,860m; serious AMS uncommon on this itinerary if ascent is paced.
Weather
Below 4,000m this trek is doable most of the year. Winter (Dec-Feb) is cold but usually clear with quieter trails and lodges open. Monsoon (Jun-Sep) brings clouds hiding the peaks and frequent Lukla flight cancellations. Mornings are clearest; afternoon cloud build-up common even in season.
