Mohare Danda Trek

Also known as Annapurna Community Eco-Lodge Trek (Mohare Danda Community Trail).

Mohare Danda Trek is an easy 5-7-day homestay/teahouse trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal, reaching 3,300 m. It starts at Galeshwor (drive from Pokhara/Beni) and ends at Tiplyang (drive back to Pokhara); Ghandruk/Nayapul on the longer variant.

Kathmandu → Pokhara (tourist bus, 6-8 h, 204 km) → Galeshwor via Kusma/Beni road (jeep/local bus, 3.5-4.5 h, ~105 km) → trail; exit Tiplyang → Beni → Pokhara (jeep/bus, 3.5-4.5 h)
Altitude sickness
Low: maximum sleeping altitude 3,300 m reached gradually over three days; serious AMS is rare on this route.

Weather

The 3,300 m summit gives a Poon Hill-class sunrise panorama of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Nilgiri and Machhapuchhre without the crowds. Trekkable most of the year; winter is cold but usually clear, with occasional snow at the top. Monsoon means leeches, mud and hidden mountains.

  1. Day 1: Pokhara to Banskharka, 3 h, 1,526 m — Galeshwor Mahadev temple, suspension bridge over the Kali Gandaki, orange orchards of Banskharka
  2. Day 2: Banskharka to Nangi, 5-6 h, 2,300 m — Magar villages and terraced farmland; Nangi's community school, paper-making and Nepal Wireless projects founded with Magsaysay laureate Mahabir Pun
  3. Day 3: Nangi to Mohare Danda, 6-7 h, 3,300 m — Rhododendron and magnolia forest, kharka pastures, summit community eco-lodge with 360-degree Dhaulagiri-Annapurna panorama
  4. Day 4: Mohare Danda to Tilkot (Danda Kharka), 5 h, 2,250 m — Sunrise over Dhaulagiri I and the Kali Gandaki gorge; descent through untouched forest to Tilkot community lodge
  5. Day 5: Tilkot to Pokhara, 4 h, 820 m — Descent to the Kali Gandaki at Tiplyang; drive out past Beni bazaar
