Dhulikhel - Namobuddha - Balthali Trek is a beginner 2-3-day homestay/teahouse trek in the Kathmandu Valley Rim region of Nepal, reaching 1,750 m. It starts at Dhulikhel and ends at Balthali (walk out to Khopasi/Panauti).

Kathmandu (Ratna Park/Koteshwor) → Dhulikhel (local bus 1.5-2h, 30 km, or private car ~1h) → trek Dhulikhel → Namobuddha → Balthali → walk out to Khopasi/Panauti → bus or car back to Kathmandu (~1.5-2h)

Weather

Mild mid-hill climate. Clear-weather panoramas of Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar and (from Dhulikhel) up to Everest on very clear days, best Oct-Dec. Monsoon walking possible but muddy and hazy. Winter days sunny, nights cool.

  1. Day 1: Kathmandu / Dhulikhel to Namobuddha, 3-4 h, 1,750 m — Dhulikhel old Newari town and viewpoint (Kali Temple), terraced fields, Kavre villages, Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery and the Namobuddha stupa (site where Buddha in a former life fed a starving tigress)
  2. Day 2: Namobuddha to Balthali, 3 h, 1,600 m — Downhill through orchards, mustard and rice terraces, Tamang and Newari hamlets to the ridge-top farming village of Balthali
  3. Day 3: Balthali to Kathmandu (via Panauti), 2-3 h, 1,300 m — Walk down via Khopasi to Panauti, one of Nepal's oldest Newari towns (Indreshwar Temple, riverside ghats); optional Bhaktapur stop en route to Kathmandu
